Kirit Patel MBE


1949 - 2016

Kirit was one of the UK’s most recognised pharmacy entrepreneurs. He had over 40 years of retail pharmacy experience and had grown the company from two pharmacies in 1975 to over 280 pharmacies in the UK, in 2016. Kirit’s contribution to pharmacy was recognised in 2005 when he was awarded an MBE by HM Queen Elizabeth II. His academic achievements range from a degree in Pharmacy from Portsmouth University to an MBA from Westminster University in 1988, a postgraduate diploma in Philosophy from Brighton University in 1998 and attending the Advanced Management Programme at Wharton Business School in 2006. Further, in June 2016, Kirit received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration from University of Bath. Amongst a large number of professional achievements, he was a founding member of the Association of Independent Multiples, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Business and a founding Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. Kirit was also the Vice Chairman of Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee, served as a government advisor on the Small Business Council (2000 – 2003) and the Better Regulation Task force (2004 – 2006). JC Patel


JC was born in Kisumu, Kenya, however graduated from Gujarat University in India with an MSc degree in Physics.

Before founding Day Lewis with his brother Kirit in May 1975, JC returned to Kenya to enter the teaching profession. In 1976, he moved to the UK to help with the family business.

He became a Sub Postmaster in Hammersmith until 1979, when he moved over to manage the retail pharmacies for Day Lewis. JC is now Company Secretary, in addition to being the Sub Postmaster of the four post offices within the Group.

JC’s most memorable moments at Day Lewis so far was when the Day Lewis acquired their 100th shop, and when the company also reached their silver anniversary.

During his lifetime, he would like to go on a cruise tour around the world.

Executive Directors

Jay Patel

Executive Director

MBA, MRPharm.S

Jay is a qualified pharmacist and holds an MBA. His exposure to community pharmacy at Day Lewis spreads over 4 decades, through which he’s obtained internal experience at every possible level and scenario.
Jay is elected on the Community Pharmacy England board as a Multiple Chemist Representative and regularly advices Senior Government on Pharmacy related matters.
As Executive Director at Day Lewis Plc, Jay leads the business alongside Rupa Patel and Sam Patel. He is responsible for Retail Strategy and Innovation. His vision is to essentially join up great people, with effective and professional processes, using robust technology to give patients the best possible experience and outcomes.

Rupa Patel

Executive Director


Rupa, who became Executive Director in 2016 leads the business alongside Jay Patel and Sam Patel. She leads with a focus on people, vision, values, and culture. Her passion for family businesses is at the heart of her leadership approach, reflecting a deep understanding of their unique dynamics and needs.
Holding a Bachelor of Dental Surgery and an MBA, she also spearheads our Real Estate initiatives. As a mother of two balancing professional and family life, Rupa is deeply committed to fitness and youth development, actively participating in youth charities in the UK.

Sam Patel

Executive Director

MA(Oxon), ACA, MBA

Sam holds an MA in Economics & Management from Oxford University, as well as an MBA from Insead Business School. He started his career at PwC where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant, and later joined Day Lewis in April 2012. As Executive Director at Day Lewis Plc, Sam leads the business alongside Jay Patel and Rupa Patel. He is responsible for supply-chain, international growth, and group investment/finance activity.
Sam’s proudest moment at Day Lewis so far is concluding the series of acquisitions that took the group past 250 pharmacies.

During his lifetime, he would like to go heli-skiing in Jackson Hole, USA.

Non Executive Directors

Carey Edwards

Non Executive Director

Carey has been an advisor to Day Lewis since 1995. He graduated from the Wharton Business School and was a management trainee with Royal Dutch Shell. This was then followed by a diverse career initially as an RAF helicopter squadron flight commander, and then various senior management positions; including a member of the executive team of the Peninsula Hotel Group and CEO of Gaastra Holdings.

Currently, he is Managing Director of LMQ, a strategic planning and training consultancy.

Carey's proudest moment at Day Lewis is establishing the company's mission, core purpose and core values.

During his lifetime, he would like to sail across the Atlantic.

Heena Patel

Company Secretary

Heena is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales having qualified with Halpern and Woolf in 1988. In her career, Heena has headed up business finance functions for a number of entrepreneurs including Peter de Savary and Aamir Ahmad.

Having joined Day Lewis in October 2011 as finance director, Heena headed up the finance department for over 8 years and successfully negotiated a number of bank facilities for the organisation that enabled successful growth of both the retail and wholesale businesses. She has since stepped back and is now Company Secretary for all entities and remains a director on the board

Non Executive Advisors

Ian Adamson

Advisor to the Board

Ian joined Day Lewis in September 2013. In addition to being Non-Executive Director for Day Lewis, Ian is the Director for L4 Consulting Ltd and Handsome Ltd; as well as Advisor to the Board for Reva Health. Prior to these positions, Ian worked as the Main Board Director and Chief Operating Officer at SSL International plc.

Ian's most memorable moment at Day Lewis was when he was invited by Kirit to join the company.

During his lifetime, Ian would like to follow as many British & Irish Lions rugby tours as possible.

Nigel Brewster

Advisor to the Board

Nigel is currently CFO of Park Resorts Limited, the largest operator of UK holiday parks. Nigel became involved with Day Lewis in January 2010. Prior to his current role, Nigel held several positions as Finance Director and other senior management roles, at companies such as Gala Coral, SFX Entertainment and ADP Dental Group.

Nigel is proud to be able to assist the board in managing their banking relationships so that the business can continue to grow.

During his lifetime, he would like to follow an Ashes tour in Australia.

Steve Matthews

Advisor to the Board

Steve joined Day Lewis in August 2015 following a 40 year career in banking with NatWest/RBS, latterly as Managing Director of the Corporate and Commercial Banking businesses. Steve is also chairman of Revver Bank a new challenger bank based in Manchester focused on supporting small and medium sized businesses.

Steve is proud to support the board and the whole Day Lewis team in delivering their ambitions.

During his lifetime Steve would like to see Nottingham Forest return to the Premier League.

Rahul Mehta

Advisor to the Board

Rahul Joined Day Lewis as a non-exec Director in Jan 2016. Rahul is also a director of both ViCoS and Virtual Clarity as well as the vice-chairman of the Asian Business Association (ABA) which is part of the London Chamber of commerce and Industry.

Rahul has been a senior IT consultant for many of the largest financial services companies in the City over his 25yr career and now focuses on providing high value insight and direction to organisations of all sizes around the world.

In his spare time Rahul works closely with charitable organisations (AbleChildAfrica, Heart of the city) as well as the ABA to promote entrepreneurship as well as raising visibility for lesser but very worthy causes.

Robert Baldrey

Advisor to the Board

Robert is a qualified accountant and has spent most of his career working in supply chain and distribution, initially in the office products industry and more latterly in healthcare. He was CFO of European office products wholesaler Spicers from 2001-2010 and CEO of EVO, the largest office products distributor in the UK from 2010-2016. More recently he worked for Private Equity house Aurelius as an Operating Partner focused on AAH, the pharmaceutical wholesaler.

Robert joined Day Lewis as a non executive advisor in September 2023 and will help the company on supply chain and distribution topics.

During his lifetime, Robert would like to see his son compete at Wimbledon.

Leadership Team

Abdullah Lamptey

General Manager of
Global Medical Supply

Abdullah is an MBA candidate at Imperial College Business School with a deep-seated passion for technological and business innovation.

With a Master's in Global Supply Chain and Operations Management, Part qualified under CIMA and a Bachelor's in International Business from Brunel, his role as International Progects Manager of Global Medical Supply focuses on providing cutting-edge medical supply solutions across diverse sectors, including cruise lines, oil and gas, and Governmental agencies to name a few.

His most memorable moment at Day Lewis was spearheading the company’s first international acquisition in Seattle, Washington and growing our international footprint.

Outside the professional sphere, Abdullah is a gooner for life and hopes to one day drive a formula 1 car.

Neil Hopkins

Head of People

Neil graduated from Kingston University with a BA Hons in Business in 1993. 30 years later Neil has held various HR/People roles within the Media, Shipping, Retail & Wholesale sectors working with most recently with well-known luxury and high street brands such as Uniqlo, Wella, Gant and Luxottica. Neil’s passion is embedding and working with strong cultures within the businesses he has worked for and as such was drawn to Day Lewis by the family culture and values.

A family man with 3 children, Neil loves nothing more than time spent with them on Holiday, eating in good restaurants and when he gets the time, plays Golf, goes Carp fishing and (to buck the Day Lewis trend!) is a season ticket at Manchester United. His dream on retiring is to buy a Winnebago and tour the United States with his wife!

Paul Walsh

Managing Director of EM Pharma

Paul started his career in finance qualifying as a Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) in 2002. Prior to joining Day Lewis in 2017 he had worked in various finance and operational management roles with a number of large FMCG and brand-led businesses.

Within Day Lewis, Paul is responsible for the Pharma Division, including East Midlands Pharma (EM Pharma) and the Groups OTC brand portfolio.

Paul is a car enthusiast who on sunny days can be found behind the wheel of his Caterham SuperSprint road-race car, when not driving you’ll probably find him in the stands with his son cheering on his beloved Notts County FC.

Peter Glover

Professional Sevices Advisor

Peter holds a degree in pharmacy from the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology. Before joining Day Lewis in June 1987, Peter worked for 15 years at Boots as a Store Manager and Pharmacy Superintendent. He has also previously owned six pharmacies.

Peter’s proudest moment at Day Lewis is when Kirit received the award of Member of the Order of the British Empire.

During his lifetime, he would like to own a Maclaren 650S.

Prakash Patel

Head Buyer OTC

With over 40 years of experience in the field of procurement in UK pharmacy, Prakash used to own multiple pharmacies in his family business, Elmfield Drugs Ltd. He was also a nationwide pharmaceutical distribution wholesaler with his previous family company, Kemicash Ltd.

Since joining Day Lewis in 2002, the plan was to work with our team for twelve months, but he has remained with us for over twenty years, very much feeling part of the Day Lewis family.

In his spare time, Prakash spends time feeling frustrated on the golf course but much more relaxed when with his four grandchildren.

Pritesh Patel

Group Finance Director

Pritesh joined the Day Lewis Group in 2023. He is a CIMA qualified accountant who has over 15 years’ experience spanning funding, finance, business transformation and business development within travel, infrastructure project, Real Estate, leisure, hospitality, and media industries. He holds a degree from Imperial University in Aeronautical Engineering.

Pritesh is a family man who loves being with his children. In his down time Pritesh enjoys playing football and is a Gunners fan.

Pritesh’s favourite travel moment is when he travelled from East to West India in a rickshaw.

In his lifetime Pritesh would love to sail the open sea across to the Caribbean.

Rachna Chhatralia

Superintendent Pharmacist

Rachna qualified as a pharmacist at the London School of Pharmacy. She started working for Day Lewis as a Pharmacist Manager in 2002 and joined our support office team in 2017 as a Professional Services Pharmacist. in 2022 Rachna was promoted to the role of Superintendent Pharmacist of the Day Lewis group. Prior to joining Day Lewis, she held the position of Pharmacist Manager for a small independent group.

Rachna brings over 25 years of experience to her role as Superintendent and her ambition is for Day Lewis to be the industry leader in patient safety.

During her lifetime, Rachna would like to visit all seven wonders of the world.

Shimal Patel

Chief Operating Officer (Supply Chain)

Shimal leads on Supply Chain and Marketing.  He holds an Executive MBA (Distinction) from Warwick Business School.  He has previously attained a Master’s degree in Business & IT from Aston Business School and a Bachelors degree in Economics & Finance from University of Southampton.  During his lifetime, he would like to see Manchester United win the Premier League again!

Steve Ash

Head of IT

Steve joined Day Lewis in April 2019 and brings with him many years of retail experience having previously headed up the IT functions for Virgin Retail, Mothercare, Pizza Hut and HSS Hire Group.

Steve is extremely keen to underpin the continued growth and success of Day Lewis by building on the extremely talented IT team and stable solutions which are already in place.

Outside of work Steve is an active Freemason, works closely with the Goods For Good Charity, is an Arsenal season ticket holder, holidays in the sun as often as possible and above all, loves spending quality time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

During his lifetime, Steve would like to learn to play a musical instrument so that he can sing and play at the celebration party next time Arsenal win the champions league!

Taybi Mohammedbhai

Head of Procurement

Taybi is a qualified pharmacist and graduated from Brighton University. Prior to joining Day Lewis in October 1982, Taybi worked for Boots as a pre-registration pharmacist and relief manager for the South Eastern area.

Taybi’s most memorable moment at Day Lewis so far is founding Day Lewis’ annual conference alongside fellow colleagues, and he is proud to see how it has evolved over the years.

During his lifetime, he would like to visit a few geographical wonders, such as Mount Everest.

Dr Tim Rendell

Head of Pharmacy

Tim is a qualified pharmacist. As Head of Pharmacy he leads teams at over 250 pharmacies across the UK, and his experience combines community pharmacy management with strategic leadership.

Tim has recently been appointed as Senior Visiting Lecturer at the University of Bath following graduating with a Doctorate in Health for his research in designing a Pharmacogenomics testing service for community pharmacy and achieving five peer reviewed publications in international journals, he is also a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS).

Having recently completed a 5k run, Tim is currently in training for a Half Marathon.

Tim is a graduate of the Wharton Business School and has also completed an MBA at Kingston University in 1999; however his experience in the UK pharmacy industry began in 1991 at what was then known as UniChem Ltd. He later became the Chief Accountant of Moss Pharmacy, which is now known as Alliance Boots. During this time, Tim helped the company to grow from 92 to 750 pharmacies in the UK. In December 2005, he joined Day Lewis as a Commercial Manager, with the responsibility of finance and business development.

During his lifetime, he would like to gain a history degree and go on a cricket tour in the Caribbean.
