The Day Lewis Group is an award-winning family business, consisting of one of the largest independent pharmacy chains in the UK & Europe. With a rich history the family business has been able to grow through acquisitions to diversify their business portfolio.
Founded by the late Kirit Patel MBE and his brother JC Patel in 1975, with the purchase of their very first pharmacy in Southborough, the Day Lewis Group has grown to over 260 pharmacies in the UK today. The family business is now led by highly experience management team that includes Kirit’s children, Jay, Rupa and Sam Patel, supported by his brother J.C. Patel.
In September 2013, Day Lewis acquired management rights of Harrods Pharmacy inside the world’s most famous department store, Harrods.
Our mission is to be as large and successful as we can be, providing we maintain our core purpose and core values and remain independent. We are committed to our core purpose of helping people in the community to stay healthy and feel better.
Day Lewis aspires to grow through acquisitions whilst still maintaining its independence and family culture. In 2022, the Group heavily invested in further warehouse space to allow central dispensing, taking significant workload off pharmacy teams allowing them to focus more on serving the needs of patients.
The group have introduced 3 robots to our central pharmacy, dispensing over 630,000 trays dossette boxes, and counting. Day Lewis continuously looks to improve existing processes to move forwards.
The growth in retail pharmacy outlets has enabled the Day Lewis Group to create a central procurement and distribution. Day Lewis Medical supplies products to over 260 of our retail pharmacies and procures from major wholesalers in the UK and Europe.
The first warehouse was purchased in 2003, and we now have 6 warehouses, totalling 16,000 square metres with over 5,000 product lines. The largest warehouse unit measures 6,300 square metres and has full Knapp automation. Our team has strong relationships with UK wholesalers and manufacturers.
Throughout its dynamic history in community pharmacy, Day Lewis has advanced from being a traditional retail pharmacy business, dispensing medication and offering retail products, into a diverse group offering healthcare services to different sectors of the economy.
In April 2012, Day Lewis PLC acquired Wells Offshore with strong synergies between Day Lewis’ group capability and Wells Offshore. The purpose of the company is to act as a wholesaler of medical and pharmaceutical supplies to the shipping industry, and major oil, gas, and mining companies throughout the world.
Day Lewis is committed to developing and continuing the well-respected reputation gained by Wells Offshore and for this reason the business moved to a new larger site (Swan House) in January 2016.
